Trash into Treasure!

Today I want to share this great project for making costume cork boards and saving that old Picture frame you may think you have no use for! I love cork boards, but find the store bought one's rather boring (no pun intended) so what better what to mix things up then to add a little sexy frame to it! I recommend checking out a thrift store in your area to find a vintage frame of your choosing, without spending a lot of dough. Otherwise, check out a local antique store if you're wanting something more specific.

Materials needed:

  • Frame of your choosing.
  • Cork board to fit the measurements of the frame
  • Paint for the frame
  • Furniture tacks and small claw hammer or a heavy duty staple gun
  • Preval Sprayer
  • Measuring tape and marking pencil
  • Box cutter
  • Cutting mat or an old piece of Ply wood

What to do:

  1. Measure the inside edge of the frame and add 1/4 - 1/2" for your cork board cut down measurements
  2. Place cork board on cutting mat and use box cutter to crop it down. If you don't have to cut it down, even better!
  3. Mix 2 parts paint to 1 part thinner in reservoir
  4. Attach Power unit and prime the dip tube and nozzle
  5. Spray evenly over frame with two coats of paint. Set aside to dry between coats and before applying the cork board to the back
  6. Using hammer, tack the cork board to the back of the frame. You can also use a staple gun if you prefer.

Once you have tacked the cork board to the back,  you are good to go! You can use it as a message board, a place to hang your necklaces or any other use you find for it! Try this great new way to jazz up the transitional message board!
