Today we thought that we'd share some great tips with you for easier spray painting projects.
- Remember to have primer, paint, finish and protective cloth for the belongings you wish to avoid getting any potential splatter, and rubber gloves.
- Being such a flexible sprayer with the ability to use any paint type in the sprayer, the Preval sprayer is perfect for any surface you can think of. Using a primer and top coat will have the best outcome for your painting project.
- Consider spraying multiple things at once. Since both the Preval sprayer and the vFan give a great, even coverage, you can line up multiple items to cover whilst spraying.
- Consider using a cloth drops to cover areas and rest your pieces onto instead of a plastic drop cloth to avoid your painting project sticking to the plastic during the drying process.
- To avoid a paint "bake", it's best to paint earlier in the morning or after dusk in the Summer.
- Clean the items being sprayed prior to painting. Using a damp cloth, that won't leave lint, wipe down the surface.
- To make sure that you only cover the areas of the piece you wish to have paint on, make sure to remove or protect any spots with painters tape.
- Make sure not to wear anything that you wouldn't want to get paint on. Old jeans and an old shirt generally do the trick.
- Wear disposable rubber gloves while spraying to help avoid "decorating" your hands in the process.
- Make sure to always take your painting products outside to avoid fumes, if you're dealing with smoothing like an epoxy or any other paint with a high amount of fumes in it. For best fume avoidance, we recommend you wear a ventilation mask for your own protection.
- Make sure not to attempt a spray painting project when it's windy outside. Also to avoid paint bubbling or "baking" make sure not to spray on a hot humid and sunny day. Even if it isn't too hot outside, direct sun exposure can affect the outcome of your project.
- To help avoid painting things your weren't planning on painting, make sure to do your projects when children and pets are around. - ALWAYS use primer for your best even coverage results.
- Keep your sprayer about 6" - 10" away from the surface unless you're working with a lacquer or quick drying finish. In this case you will want to stay about 5" from the surface for best results. An even back and forth movement is best for these projects.
- For a good coverage all over, make sure to start with your product up-side-down, allow to dry. Then you can flip the piece over.
- A top coat is very important to keeping the piece looking in good condition for years to come. We recommend that you use a clear top coat as your finish. There are various types of finished from high gloss to matte.
- Best the best drying time, we recommend allowing a full 24 hours for the final piece to completely dry before moving and using the piece.
- For a more distressed look for your piece. wait for the paint to be completely dry, apply your chosen distressing technique. Once this is complete, you may apply your clear finish to the piece.
- Remember if you're not happy with the color choice once you've applied it, you can always go back and repaint it with a new color before finishing.
